With access to many highways, the railway, the Victoria Regional Airport, and the Port of Victoria all contribute to sustainable economic growth in the city. It’s also home to the well-known Texas Zoo, Nave Museum, Deleon Plaza, the Museum of the Coastal Bend, and many other popular attractions.
Originally known as the city of Guadalupe Victoria, it was founded in 1824 by Martin De Leon, to honor the first President of the Republic of Mexico. It was also originally a part of De Leon’s Colony and had a small population of 300 by the end of the decade. Eventually, the city was renamed as Victoria by Anglo settlers. Over time, the city slowly began developing. The population began increasing, largely from European and German immigrants. Its rapid population growth was also helped largely because of its location. It took the name of the “Crossroads of South Texas,” which connected it to various cities in Texas while serving as a trade center for commerce. Along with its connection to various ports and major highways, Victoria, Texas still benefits from its location and has contributed to its economic growth.
