Temple was made with the intention of being a small city, but it is home to major developments and amenities that are not usually found in small cities.
In 1881, Temple was created as a railroad town and became fully incorporated in 1882. The town was originally named after a man named Bernard Temple who was an engineer and railroad official. When the Missouri Kansas Texas Railroad was developed in the town, and naturally the population and commerce began to thrive. The old “wild west” can perfectly illustrate what became the town of Temple, with the openings of saloons, shacks, and other builds during this time period situated on top of muddy roads. Over time, schools, commercial sites, and other properties began to be built. The population slowly grew as well. Today, Temple, Texas is home to many notable locations such as Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum, Belton Lake, Miller Springs Nature Center, and some water local water parks.
