Kent is home to the ShoWare Center, an arena that has room for 7,000 people. The stadium is home to the Seattle Thunderbirds junior hockey team, the Tacoma Stars indoor soccer team, and the Seattle Mist women’s football team.
The Kent School District runs public schools in the city. There are four high schools and seven middle schools in the city. The Federal Way Public Schools district also operates a few schools in Kent.

The area was a popular site for dairy farming, but floods from the Green and White Rivers required the construction of new dams. The city would grow in the second half of the twentieth century following Boeing’s investment in the local area.
Boeing has a large business site on the northern end of Kent. Boeing hires about 10,000 people in the city. Kent was home to a space exploration center operated by Boeing. The center helped to build the lunar rovers used by the Apollo program.
